About Team Cold Logic

Cold Logic Team Picture Team Cold Logic is the Marquette Area, high school-level, FIRST Robotics Competition team #3617. Our team encompasses students from the Marquette Area Public Schools, Marquette home schools, North Star Academy, and Gwinn Community Schools.

Our team competes in the FRC with 52,000+ teams from around the world. Every year, FIRST - our parent foundation - issues a robot-building challenge. Teams then have six short weeks to build their robot before the competition.

FIRST is more than robots! Students not only learn Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math-related skills; but also business management (through fundraising), public speaking, event planning, graphic design, and Gracious Professionalism.

Team History

Past Cold Logic Team Picture Team Cold Logic was started in 2011 by two FRC alumni (Cory from team #141 Wobots and Alec from team #1625 Winnovation) along with the Marquette Senior High School metals teacher. In the beginning, there were only five students.

With the help of their experienced mentors, Team Cold Logic had a successful first year; even winning the 2011 Livonia Regional event using their robot, Andy Mark, as well as the Wobot's Favorite Rookie Award.

In the coming years, the team would consistently double in size. More members meant that the group was able to accomplish even more! The team began planning more outreach events, and applying for more awards such as the Chairman's Award.

Pushing the mission of FIRST in Michigan, Team Cold Logic has extended their influence and helped to start teams in Bark-River Harris, Munising, Iron River, and soon Gwinn.

Finance & Budget

Cold Logic Fundraising Every year, Team Cold Logic aims to raise funds to cover the cost of competition registration, parts for the robot, upgrading and replacing old tools, and lastly hotel and food for students during the competition weekends.

Each student member is tasked with raising $1,000 through business sponsorship, grants, fundraising events, and individual donations. As well as earning money for the team; students learn skills like how to create a business plan, grant-writing, business relations, and event planning.

Here is a detailed look at our budget:

Team Safety Program

One of the many skills learned in first robotics is safety. This means not only being safe with tools and robots, but also being safe while traveling, at an event, and online.

Safety is everyone's responsibility, and to ensure that all team members are participating in safety FRC teams elect Safety Captains. The Safety Captain is responsible for creating safety education programs, updating the team's safety manual, and keeping inventory of FIRST Aid materials and PPE.

Team Cold Logic hosts a minimum of two Safety Workshops ever year (one during our Summer Workshop series and another right before Build Season). The goal of these workshops is to get team members comfortable with using basic tools and wearing personal protection equipment (PPEs, like safety glasses). These workshops also ensure that team members know the location of first aid and emergency materials, as well as evacuation plans.
